You came with me
to let the river into the pastures.
You’d never seen bison.
We came up on them.
You went still.
I missed her then.
We both did. I think.
You looked at me.
Then back into them.
You cried out to them.
Maybe you thought they’d cry back.
Maybe you were brave.
Maybe scared.
You cried out again.
I laughed.
They answered.
Came up on us quick.
I picked you up.
Held you tight.
Would you remember?
